Long thought to be an asteroid, Phaethon is now classified as an extinct comet.Basically it is the rocky skeleton of a comet that lost its ice after too many close encounters with the sun. Earth runs into a stream of debris from 3200 Phaethon every year in mid-December, causing meteors to fly from the constellation Gemini. When the Geminids first appeared in the late 19th century, shortly before the US Civil War, the shower was weak and attracted little attention. There was no hint that it would ever become a major display. The camera is mounted at NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Ala. Live meteor shower cam highlights of what I saw. This video is from a security camera at a hotel in Mexicali [Mexico] very near where the Easter Day Earthquake hit. This was a 7.2 magnitude quake that rattled the southwest from Arizona to Vegas to Los Angeles. Even thought this quake did not cause as much damage as the ones that hit in Haiti and Chile, it goes to show you the power of earthquakes and how scary they are. Just watch as a mini tsunami is created within this pool. Just to give you an idea where Mexicali is, it is within 15- 20 miles North of the epicenter of the quake which was Guadalupe Victoria, Mexico. Words of wisdom: Make sure you have a surfboard if your in the pool during an earthquake.
